Brown Cove Crags, Helvellyn (14)

Two ill-prepared and poorly equipped young men were camping below Brown Cove Crags on Helvellyn in ‘normal’ Lake District winter conditions. With inadequate clothing and camping equipment the rain and strong winds meant the pair became increasingly wet and cold through the night so they called 999 for help. A small team was despatched with warm and waterproof clothing, hot drinks and food to fetch them down. The two were assessed, dressed and walked off the hill whilst their gear and tent was packed up. Some valuable lessons were learnt for these novice campers and they assured us that next time they would be more adventuresmart
