Three men who said they were camping on a river island in the Langstrath valley requested help when they woke to alarmingly high river levels which caused them to be stranded. With heavy overnight rain the Borrowdale Road was cut off due to flooding so Keswick team had to deploy vehicles over Whinlatter and Honister passes in order to get to Stonethwaite at the bottom of Langstrath. In parallel support from Coastguard helicopter R936 along with Cockermouth MRT was requested.
A search began for the campers with team members prepared for a possible swift water rescue and R936 doing aerial sweeps of the valley. Fortunately the three soaked men were located near Stonethwaite having managed to self rescue as the water level had receded.
