Sharp Edge, Blencathra (126)
Callout Date: 02/11/2024
Callout Time: 5:37 pm
Agencies Involved: Keswick MRT, Coastguard helicopter R199
A 19 year old dislocated his patella (knee cap) in the final notch before the steep scramble to the top of Sharp Edge. A team doctor was able to get the man to successfully relocate his patella over the phone, but the knee remained swollen and he was still unable to weight bear. After just packing the vehicles after the last call out on Blencathra, the team made their way back up again. After fixing a safety line along the Edge team members were able to provide pain relief and splint the leg for an assisted hobble back to safer ground. From here the man was stretchered to below the cloud base where the Coastguard helicopter was able to pick him up and deliver him to Crow Park in Keswick. The man’s friend transported him to hospital for further checks.
