Allerdale Ramble Castle Crag (138)

A 14 year old female was descending the Allerdale Ramble below Castle Crag with a group of mountain bikers when she went over her handlebars. The biker’s helmet took the initial impact before she fell onto the bouldery track on her back. Her mum and other companions very effectively wrapped her up against the rather wild and cold elements whilst they waited for Mountain Rescue to arrive. The casualty was assessed and given pain relief before being very carefully packaged in a vacuum mattress and warm casualty bag and stretchered down to an ambulance for onward transfer to Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.
