Cumbria police paged the team stating they had received a call from a member of the public that had concerns for others welfare. The report stated; “Caller reported seeing a flare ‘go up’ from Wythop woods over the A66 towards Bassenthwaite lake.” With little information to go on but a genuinely concerned member of the public, we decided to deploy and small team who drove to the area and saw no further activity and could hear no whistles or calls for help. They also drove the forest track through Wythop and could see no signs of anyone in distress. They stood down in the early hours.
