Reports were received of series of large orange flares in the area between Blencathra and High Pike. The informant believed these were not fireworks and was concerned that someone might be in distress. Team members with a view of this area of the fells did not see anything untoward but a team vehicle was sent along the A66 to get a closer look. As there were no further sightings of flares, and has this area has a reasonable phone signal should a person need to call 999, a decision was made to stand down. A false alarm with good intent.
