A well equipped walker, with axe and crampons, was making his way along a ridge on Helvellyn Lower Man, when a strong gust of wind caused him to be blown off his feet, and resulted in an 150m tumbling/sliding fall over rocks, snow, and frozen turf. Battered and bruised the man, with support from colleagues, attempted to descend towards Swirls car park. However after making slow progress the group called for assistance. Once located the man was given pain relief and checked over by team medics. Despite numerous scrapes and bruises there were no apparent more serious injuries. The man was stretchered and sledged down to Swirls car park to an awaiting ambulance and on to hospital for further checks.
