A mother reported that her 11 and 15 year old boys were paddle boarding on Derwentwater and had not turned up at the expected landing area. A multi-agency response was triggered with teams quickly on the water in four rescue boats, a shore line search by foot and bike, and with Coastguard helicopter R897 overhead. After searching much of the lake without success the Police eventually located the two lads walking on the road back to their campsite carrying the paddle board. A good outcome, but to reduce stress levels all round it was recommended that they take a phone in a water proof case on their next paddle board adventure.
