Callout Date: 03/09/2024
Callout Time: 3:24 pm
Agencies Involved: Keswick MRT, NWAS
A 70 year old man had traversed Helvellyn from Swirls and was descending the pitched path below Birkside aiming for Wythburn Church when he slipped on loose gravel and went over on his ankle. Thanks to the passing couple who called for a rescue and stayed with the man when it was clear he couldn’t weight-bear. Keswick team members, on their 100th callout for the year, approached via the forest track at Wythburn leaving a relatively short walk to the casualty. The man was assessed and his ankle splinted before being stretchered down to an ambulance at Wythburn Church.
