A male climber on the south crag of Castle Rock took a leader fall of a couple of metres breaking his fall by landing on his belayer friend, they both tumbled a further 5-6m down the steep slope. The climber sustained an ankle injury and his friend got away with a sore shoulder only. The man’s helmet did a great job of saving his head. On arrival the team did a medical assessment, splinted the ankle and because of the mechanism of injury – a tumbling fall from height – the man was placed in a vacuum mattress for the awkward stretcher carry down to the road. The man was the taken to hospital in a NWAS ambulance for treatment.
