Gillercomb Head, Green Gable (22)
Callout Date: 04/04/2023
Callout Time: 2:12 pm
Agencies Involved: Keswick MRT, Cockermouth MRT
A female walker slipped and injured her ankle on the slopes of Green Gable above Gillercomb Head. Being unable to weight-bear the party called for Mountain Rescue assistance. The team’s very capable vehicles are able to drive up the mine track towards Dubs Hut thus saving a lot of leg work. Whilst still in the vehicles a second and more urgent callout came in (see incident 23) so the team were diverted to Grey Knotts, fortuitously very close by. Base control then assigned the first callout to Cockermouth MRT who were happy to respond.
On completion of the Grey Knotts callout (Incident 23) the team were able to continue on the first callout towards Green Gable arriving at the casualty site around the same time as Cockermouth. The woman was given pain relief and her ankle splinted before both teams helped with a stretcher carry back to the Drum House track from where she was transported in a team vehicle down to Honister to their own car.
