Great Gable (88)

Callout Date: 16/08/2025
Callout Time: 2:54 pm
Agencies Involved: Keswick MRT, GNAAS, Coast Guard R199

On a beautiful summer’s day a 70 year old man was descending towards Windy Gap after an ascent of Great Gable. Rather than tackle the steep rocky part for the descent the man made a wide detour but unfortunately towards the bottom of the descent the man fell and tumbled an estimated 20-30m down the rocky slope. GNAAS Helimed 58 was able to land on Green Gable, drop off medical personnel then return to Keswick to ferry up 3 Keswick MR team members including a team paramedic and doctor. Further team members approached from Honister and the Drum House Track. The casualty was assessed and treated on scene before being packaged in a vacuum mattress and Tyromont stretcher to be picked off by Coast Guard helicopter R199. The casualty was then flown to Glasgow for treatment.

Many thanks to the generous couple who left money behind the bar for team members who were having a post-rescue ‘debrief’ in the Royal Oak in Rosthwaite.
