High Snab Farm, Newlands (23)

Just two minutes after the Sharp Edge callout, the team received a second call regarding a fell runner in the Newlands Valley who, after a long run around the valley rim, had slipped on the final grassy descent above High Snab and fallen sustaining a badly broken lower leg.

With two incidents now getting under way team members drove close to the scene quickly. On arrival the casualty’s injuries were assessed, strong analgesia administered before splinting the casualty’s leg. The runner was then stretchered down to Newlands Church to await an ambulance and when one wasn’t immediately available the casualty was transported to our base in Keswick to await an NWAS ambulance. While at the base, additional pain relief was provided to ensure the casualty remained comfortable during the wait.
