Callout Time: 12:39 pm
Agencies Involved: Keswick MRT, Penrith MRT, NWAS
On a day of sunny intervals and very heavy showers a group of six following the Coast to Coast route were ascending Lining Crag at the head of the Greenup Gill Valley when one of the group slipped and went over on her ankle. With the woman unable to weight bear they called 999 for a rescue. Short on numbers a request was sent to Penrith MRT for assistance for this long stretcher carry. After an assessment the woman’s ankle was splinted and she was strapped into the stretcher for a carry and sled ride back down to Stonethwaite. Part way down the valley eight Penrith team members appeared like the cavalry to assist with the stretcher carry on this tricky, narrow and rocky path, many thanks to them. The woman was dropped off at the Langstrath Hotel to await the ambulance whilst the teams returned to their respective bases.
