A couple in their 70s had taken the bus from Keswick to Thirlmere and were walking back to catch the bus at Dalebottom on the last day of their walking holiday. Despite having done the walk numerous times the man had an unfortunate slip on a rocky patch of the pathway resulting in a broken ankle. The stoic casualty declined pain relief whilst his ankle was splinted, he was then stretchered the short distance to a team vehicle. The man was then taken back to the rescue base to await an ambulance for onward transfer to hospital.
