The fire service requested support in extricating a vehicle stuck on ice near the top of Newlands Pass. The occupants felt they could not take their foot off the brake as they were fearful of sliding off the road and down the steep fell side. A Keswick team Land Rover was dispatched to help but was stood down as the fire service had successfully rescued the vehicle and passengers.

Emergency road closures on the passes are now in place due to the current cold weather.
