Three people who had no idea of the nature of the road decided that going over Newlands Pass in winter conditions for a drink in Buttermere was a good idea. Having passed the ‘Road Closed’ sign, they fortunately got stuck before crossing the pass, the consequences of a slide on the icy Buttermere side do not bear thinking about. The team were able to help get their car to the side of the road before returning the three (one of whom is 6 month pregnant) back to Keswick in a winter-equipped four wheel drive Sprinter.
