Sharp Edge, Blencathra (37)
Callout Date: 30/04/2023
Callout Time: 7:50 pm
Agencies Involved: Keswick MRT, RAF Leeming MRT
Two well equipped walkers having summited Blencathra decided on descending Sharp Edge to Scales Tarn to set up a camp for the night.
When wet the rock on the Edge becomes notoriously slippy, and spells of rain had transformed the rock into this more hazardous state. The two had reached the awkward sloping slab and decided that it was better to get help than continue and risk a fall.
Keswick team assisted by members of RAF Leeming made their way to the top of Sharp Edge and lowered team members down to the men who were then roped up to safe ground. They were then walked off the mountain and given a lift to their car.
13 team members & 4 RAF Leeming – 5 hours 20 minutes
