Agencies Involved: Keswick MRT, RAF Leeming MRT, Wasdale MRT
Whilst descending Grains Gill (rescue 54) the team received a callout to a fell runner with an injured ankle who had tried to self-rescue but in 45 minutes had made little progress but had made it to the Mountain Rescue box on Sty Head Pass. An ex Penrith MR team member was marshalling an event and took over casualty care using some of the equipment in the rescue box. Rescue number 54 team split and half went up to deal with this incident whilst the rest carried on down to Seathwaite. The 33 year old man’s ankle was assessed and splinted and using the stretcher from the Sty Head box the man was carried down towards Seathwaite. To bolster numbers Wasdale MRT were asked to assist. Thanks to the 5 Wasdale team members who started up towards Sty Head before being stood down. The rest of the team members from the first job along with the three RAF MR guys climbed back up towards Sty Head to assist in the carry out.
11 Keswick team members, 3 RAF Leeming MRT, 5 Wasdale MRT – 2 hours 47 minutes
