Styhead Gill (109)
Callout Date: 28/09/2024
Callout Time: 2:03 pm
Agencies Involved: Keswick MRT, Coastguard helicopter Rescue 199
Whilst the team were assembling in base to assist Cockermouth MRT on a potential stretcher carry off Whiteless Pike in the Buttermere valley, we received a call to help a 23 year old man who had gone over on his ankle on Blease Fell, Blencathra. 7 minutes later we received another call for a 75 year old woman who had injured her ankle at Styhead Gill above Taylorgill Force. With all this going on we had to stand down on the Cockermouth job – fortunately they were able to get Coastguard helicopter R199 support – and the Blease job was re-directed to Penrith MRT, with support from a few Keswick team members.
Keswick team made their way to the injured woman at Styhead Gill, provided analgesia and splinted her ankle. With R199 in the area a request was made to the Coastguard for a helicopter extraction. They were able to respond and landed near to the casualty location. After a short stretcher carry across Styhead Gill the woman was loaded onto the the helicopter and airlifted to hospital.
Many thanks to Penrith MRT and Rescue 199 for their fantastic support.
