A father and son were on the return leg of a loop over numerous fells in the ‘Back o’ Skiddaw’ area when the father slipped and went over badly on his ankle. A passerby dialled 999 and requested Mountain Rescue. The team approached from Brocklecrag Farm above Dash Beck, this seeming like the shortest approach to Trusmadoor. It was obvious on the approach however that the terrain would make for a very difficult stretcher carry. Once the casualty was located, assessed and treated he was stretchered out (carried and sledged) on a different route through the Uldale Fells back to the road at Longlands. The man’s son was then able to drive him to hospital.
