The police received a SOS distress message from a lone female walker. The Lat/Long grid reference placed her on Birk Side on Helvellyn but being unable to contact her phone a small MR team went to investigate. In the meantime the walker’s father received a text message saying she was down safe and well and he went to collect her before the team arrived at the base of the hill. It’s not clear why the device was activated but we assume this was accidental.
