After all the rain recently the Derwentwater lakeshore is somewhat narrower than usual for summer. A woman walking by the lakeside slipped on a rock injuring her lower back. She tried to walk but could not continue for the pain. The team attended, administered pain relief and placed her in a vacuum mattress on the stretcher for the short carry to the road. The lack of beach meant that team members’ shoes got a good washing as they were forced to walk through the lake. An NWAS ambulance collected the casualty from the rescue base for onward transport to hospital.
