Dale Head Tarn (130)

Callout Date: 09/09/2026
Callout Time: 3:07 pm
Agencies Involved: Keswick MRT, Coast Guard R199

A female walker injured her ankle on the descent from High Spy above Dale Head Tarn. The woman hopped down supported by her husband but in two hours had made just a couple of hundred metres progress. The quickest approach for the team was up the Newlands Valley up the track beyond Little Town. Being short on numbers assistance was requested from Penrith MRT. At this stage another callout came in and the second truck was diverted to that (Incident 131). In light of the lack of team members and very tricky descent a Coast Guard helicopter was requested. The woman’s ankle was assessed and splinted then, assisted by two team members, she was half carried down the first part of the descent to a flat spot where the helicopter could land. Many thanks to Coast Guard R199 who collected the casualty and flew her to Whitehaven Hospital. Many thanks also to the five Penrith team members for coming out to help.

12 Keswick team members, 5 Penrith MRT team members – 3 hours 48 minutes
