Helvellyn Lower Man (145)

Callout Date: 14/10/2026
Callout Time: 7:43 pm
Agencies Involved: Keswick MRT

Five friends started walking up Helvellyn at 3:30pm. After visiting the summit and not long into the descent one of the party cramped up and couldn’t move. They called 999 reporting their situation and the fact they were cold and only have 2 torches with them. The night was dry but the wind was storm force; team members wore helmets as they were being blown over. Our stretchers split into two halves for ease of carrying but a half stretcher can still blow one around in strong wind. On this occasion it took four people on each half to safely carry it up the pitched path. Once the first team members arrived on scene the four well members of the party were walked off the hill while one stayed with casualty in a group shelter awaiting the rest of the team to arrive for a stretcher evacuation. After an examination by a team paramedic and with the right encouragement the man was walked off with assistance.
