Callout Date: 28/04/2026
Callout Time: 8:03 pm
Agencies Involved: Keswick MRT, NWAS, Cumbria Fire and Rescue, Cumbria Police

The team was alerted to five people on two paddleboards who had been blown into the middle of the lake by strong winds. The group was in a precarious position, particularly as they were without wetsuits or buoyancy aids, and at least two individuals had fallen into the water. This incident highlights the speed at which lake conditions can change and the vital importance of wearing personal flotation devices when heading out on the water.

A multi-agency response was launched, with Cumbria Fire and Rescue, Cumbria Police, and the North West Ambulance Service all in attendance alongside Keswick MRT. While teams were deploying, the group managed to reach the shore. They were collected, assessed for cold-water shock, and returned to their departure point.

Notably, this call-out marked the 1500th rescue for team member Andy Jones. This is a monumental milestone, representing an incredible level of dedication and selfless service to the community. A huge congratulations to Andy on this remarkable achievement.
